Sara and Chris planned a Destination Wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico…a beautiful ceremony on the beach with an intimate reception following at Riu Palace. Thankfully, they and their guests arrived several days early to celebrate. Shortly after their ceremony (as in minutes) Hurricane Henriette rolled in.

For the next two days they were under lockdown at the resort as it was pummeled upon by the sea and torrential rains. Despite the weather, Nate and Shelly really enjoyed spending time with everyone, especially Sara and Chris. They surrounded themselves with incredibly fun people.

We are very excited for Jeana and Justin’s upcoming wedding in November. Jeana found us in the most interesting way…a faithful and helpful cousin. Jeana gave her cousin the job of researching photographers and the rest is history. Enjoy!

Generations — tiffany at 10:10 pm on Thursday, September 20, 2007

The mother of these cute kids contacted us after she was a bridesmaid in a wedding we shot last August. We finally found a date that worked! It gives me a glimpse at what my twin girls will look like in another year. Such different personalities! I had to find out where these outfits are from…check out Matilda Jane. Unbelievable clothing and the designer is from Indiana!

Gorgeous wedding. Super couple. Neat family.

The day began with a traditional Jewish Ceremony at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation. Then the guests made their way to a fabulous reception at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Nate had the least amount of time EVER to take pictures…eight minutes with the bride and groom and ten minutes with the families. He said he had never moved so fast!

We have to recognize some of those that participated in making this a beautiful event. Rebecca Raymond of Event Fantastic was the wedding planner. We enjoy working with Rebecca regularly and will miss her presence in Zionsville. Antonia Zunarelli of the Indiana Roof Ballroom is totally fantastic at making each wedding completely unique. Coby Palmer has an amazing gift for creating beautiful floral arrangements. And few can produce that old band sound that you get with Flip Miller.

All I can say is we clicked with this couple from the beginning. Natalie is one of the nicest brides we have ever worked with. I was so comfortable with her that we met for our final logistics meeting at the nail salon! I loved that Natalie, along the entire wedding planning process, was deeply into the details…down to the Tacon flower hairpin and La Sposa gown. Natalie was also part of Sexy Shoot back in April.

They also happen to be the tallest bride and groom (both former basketball players) we have ever photographed. They have the height at 5′3 5/8 that I just long for. But enough about me and my short legs.

Before the ceremony, the wedding party made the trek to Ft. Benjamin Harrison where we were able to quickly capture some beautiful images. Natalie and Ryan had a lovely wedding that began at East 91st Street Christian Church and concluded at the Montage.
The Montage was beautifully decorated with a perfect shade of bright pink. One of our favorite DJs was on location that evening as well, Mark Beecher of Grapevine Productions.

Laura and Neal had an impeccably planned wedding at Meridian Street United Methodist Church with a reception following at the Scottish Rite. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to shoot a reception at the Scottish Rite for the first time…it is an extraordinary building.

At the reception, Laura and Neal showed a slideshow which included many of the images from our engagement shoot. Their engagement shoot was one of our favorites of the summer…they were so relaxed and carefree. It was easy to capture great images. They also used the images from the shoot as table cards at the reception.

Adrienne and Teresa of Eventfull Planning carried out all of the details of the day, including a 10-page itinerary. There was nothing forgotten.

hurricane henriette

Cool Stuff — tiffany at 3:30 pm on Friday, September 7, 2007

As you may know from Tiffany’s earlier posts, Shelly and I had an interesting few days in Cabo San Lucas.  As we departed Denver, the Captain announced a hurricane was threatening to hit our destination city the following day.

When we booked Sara and Chris’ wedding, we carefully planned…anticipating we may run into issues given the time of year.  We sent our assistant, and fantastic photographer Shelly Valentine early in case I should not arrive on time.  As we approached our landing, we could see beautiful, yet violent cumulous nimbus cloud formations, and with them a bumpy decent.

Upon arrival to the Riu, Shelly and I had two hours to prepare for the wedding.  The first stop was to the spa to see our beautiful bride, Sara.  The second, the poolside bar to see our buff groom, Chris, and friends preparing for the event.

The ceremony on the beach went as planned with the backdrop of darkening clouds, the sound of massive waves crashing on the beach, and half the resort watching the interesting spectacle from above.  Within five minutes of the ceremony end, Henriette, our incoming Hurricane, began to drop rain.

Dinner was had in a beautiful restaurant overlooking the ocean.  Unfortunately, the resort had installed plywood over the windows to protect the structure from the high winds.  What must have been a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean a day before, now felt like a cave.

The rest of the evening was spent in the safe confines of the resort disco.  As Henriette moved in closer, the resort staff was busy preparing for the worst.  The staff did an amazing job keeping the facility clean, safe, and abundant with food.  Throughout the ordeal the staff remained very upbeat and helpful to all of us.

We awoke, Tuesday morning, to Henriette at full wrath.  We lost power for the first time around 8:15am.  To my surprise power was soon restored and remained on for most of the day.  The water however did not.  The water pressure failed just as I was rinsing the shampoo from my hair.  Fortunately I was able to rinse out the suds via reserves in two sinks and half a bottle of water.  In hindsight, I should have walked out onto the balcony for a rinse.

To our surprise, the resort sustained more damage than we had expected.  We witnessed massive holes in the ceilings, water leaking down interior walls, and puddling throughout the resort.

Shelly and I spent most of the day eating, reviewing the wedding images, and talking.  I am so thankful to have had her along on the trip.  Not only is she an extremely gifted photographer with a bright future, but she is an individual everyone seems to be instantly at ease with.  She is by far the best assistant we have had the pleasure to work with.

The experience proved to be one of the most interesting and exhilarating of my life.  I love any experience that tests your knowledge, preparation, instinct, patience, and mindset.

The attached images are a few I took over the day.  Look for the wedding images in a few weeks.

Fantastically fun couple! Sarah and Brett always seem happy and easy going. We had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time because we hit it off so well with Sarah and Brett and the rest of the entourage they brought along to meetings!

I think we were hooked when Sarah explained that she and her father would be dancing their father-daughter dance to “Mr. Roboto” and the groomsmen would all be wearing colorful argyle socks.

They had a beautiful wedding at Meridian Street Methodist Church with a reception following at Marriott Keystone.
