back to sweden

Marriages — nate at 1:00 am on Monday, April 20, 2009

When we found out we would be returning to Sweden for Helena’s sisters wedding (her brother Jonas wed the previous year), we were excited.

The couple wed in an old church surrounded by pasture and horses. The ceremony was lovely with beautiful songs, spoken entirely in Swedish. Even though I didn’t understand a word, I knew exactly what was being said. The newlyweds received hugs and kisses, along with a rice shower. They then saddled a WWII BMW motorcycle with sidecar and sped off.

A Swedish wedding is different than weddings in the United States. The majority of Swedish weddings (my wedding included) are smaller affairs in which only immediate family and close friends are guests. The reception is full of speeches, skits, sing-a-longs, slide shows, and the drinking of Aquavit.

I cannot express the love I have for my wife’s country, her family, and our friends. It is such a wonderful place.

The perks of having a photographer in the family is obvious. The downside is that it has taken me eight months to finish their images. Sorry for the delay, and thank you for never complaining.

Enjoy…N8

Relationships — tiffany at 5:18 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2009

To say we love these two is an understatement.  They are so cool and at the same time kind and unassuming.  Just the fact that when Hillary explains her wedding gown she says, “BAM!” gets us excited.  We also love that Troy is a ‘hands-on groom’ that started a blog early on which keeps us laughing everytime we read it.

Nate had a great time shooting with Hillary and Troy in Chicago.  And despite their nerves, they look hot.  Along with Monica Richard of Detail & Design,  they are planning a sensational wedding in September at the Marion County Library downtown.   Cannot wait for this extragavanza. Enjoy!

Michele and Brian finish sentences for eachother…and usually its with a joke. We enjoyed their laid back approach to the wedding.  They allowed us time with just the two of them prior to the ceremony which seldom is the case.

It was our first time shooting at the Renaissance Hotel which recently opened in Carmel, Indiana.  It isn’t at all what you expect.  It is a very boutique, cosmopolitan hotel…simply a fabulous place!  And, it was perfect for Michele and Brian that wanted to keep everything under one roof.

Their reception was nothing short of fun with glow in the dark necklaces and endless dancing.  Check back in a few days for their wedding album design.  Enjoy!

Brides Against Breast Cancer is hosting a charity bridal gown sale April 17-18 at Emmis Communications Lobby along the Circle in Indianapolis.

The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization for women and men suffering from stage IV breast cancer.  This Nationwide tour includes a collection of well-known designers and couture gowns.  We are very excited about the opportunity to photograph this event.  Please stop by.  I think it is a great opportunity for those brides wanting to do a ‘Trash the Dress’ shoot but don’t want to trash their wedding gown.

This event will feature hundreds of wedding gowns for sale with all proceeds going to assisting women with breast cancer. This event travels throughout the United States and will be exclusively in Indy for only two days! Friday, April 17th from 10:00 A.M.- 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, April 18th from 10:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.

Despite significant advances in research, Breast Cancer remains the number one cancer killer of women between the ages of 15 and 54, leaving thousands of small children without mothers and young husbands to raise families alone.  Breast cancer touches most everyone, whether personally or through a friend or family member.  Currently, there are 2.8 million women diagnosed with breast cancer in America with numbers increasing rapidly.

There are certain reasons why we look forward to each wedding because each wedding is unique.  The wedding between Danielle and Jason has us stoked for two reasons.  First, this family is absolutely hysterically funny, exciting, warm, and loving.  They have fun no matter where they are…their reputation follows them.  Secondly, this is going to be a quintessential Zionsville wedding for us, from the outdoor gazebo wedding to the reception following at Nancy Noel’s Sanctuary in October.  We cannot wait to spend more time with the entire group.  Enjoy!

P.S. Nate took these images on the one day it decided to snow in March!  Ugh…Indiana Spring.  It can change on a dime.

Heather is an enormous part of our family as she watches my children several days a week.  She provides them with an incredible influence, and is a lot of fun.  She can just as easily fight bad guys with my youngest son as chase after the twins with loving arms.  In honor of their upcoming anniversary, we photographed she and her husband, Ian.  A loving, warm couple.  Enjoy!

We met Stacy several years ago at her cousin’s wedding.  We were glad to get back in touch, especially to grab some images of her two favorite pups.

The Hunter Family was thankfully recently reunited with eachother upon Scott’s return from Iraq.  Deployments can always be difficult…especially when a young boy misses his dad.  This was a celebration of a warm welcome home.  Congratulations on being a family again!
